The "Why"
Flowers are gentle hand-holders; leading us through life's doorways.
There are many places and situations in life that carry with them a sense of awe.
Sometimes, it is loss; sometimes, love.
Sometimes, romance; sometimes, an apology. Sometimes, welcoming a new life,
and sometimes, remembering a life that is gone.
What interests me, is that, at all of these pivotal junctures, flowers can be found standing by as our witness. To soothe, reassure, profess, comfort, celebrate, applaud, and encourage us.
Somehow, (and we don't really understand how) they walk into the room with us. They hold our hand.
They whisper, "You got this."
Flowers can seem to some: Frivolous. Extra. Unecessary.
They fade quickly. But so do shooting stars, The Northern Lights, Birthday cakes, fluffy snow, pizza, a sunrise, all the greatest moments...they pass . And yet, we make great efforts to catch and hold these moments of beauty. So, there is nothing frivolous in the chasing after the magic of a delicate bloom. It is a powerful, miraculous delicacy.
And, I chose these quick-travelling, petaled-angels to co-conspire with against life's gray clouds, trembling knees, and sighs of broken hearts. I chose to join them in their rejoicing over declarations of love, of promises made, and tears of joy.
I choose to capture, and tie down, these little petals of magic before they disappear. To hold them up, like a choir of tiny, colorful angels, to help you in your biggest moments. Moments to: achieve, cross-over, complete, celebrate, and commit.
What an amazing privilege!
What an amazing work I have found!

The Story
The Birth of A Beautiful Day.
Someone once looked me square in the eye, and told me, without hesitation,
"You are going to have to figure out what you're going to do."
So my journey began:
"What did I love to do? Who was I (outside of being a mom to three beautiful souls)?
So far, I was a Child- carer. A Carpooler. A Homework Helper. A Three-meals-a-day Cooker. A Clothes Washer. A Housekeeper. A Social Calendar Creator.
I held a somewhat useless Bachelors in Psychology.
So, I tossed around the idea of pursuing a Masters degree in Art Therapy.
But, Meh. Just... Meh. That's all I really felt about that.
I knew that, outside of being (my favorite thing in the world) the Mom to my beautiful daughters, I was an avid lover of anything art.
Especially textiles.
I had been making anything I could spare the time for, and learn the skill for, since around the age of eleven.
My affinity for "making" carried me through my childhood boredom, my teenage angst, and an infinite number of parenting waiting games.
Then, one day, I found myself standing in a luxury event venues lobby, directly in front of another persons' "emergency" situation meltdown.
Apparently, their Lead Floral Designer had drank a little too much the night before a big wedding-design mock-up meeting, and I, very providentially, happened to be standing across from the venue's owner as she was receiving this update on the designer ( trying to not flip- out).
Her immediate response was to look up and say, "Does anyone know anyone who knows how to do this?"
Next thing I know....I (holding my breath) said, "I think I can." (..gurl..)
So, off I went to "Thinking I Can Land" to see if I would sink or swim.
I swam.
Within the first ten minutes of working the flowers into some sort of visual poetry, I wondered, "WHY have I never thought of using flowers as a medium for art before this?"
After the first half hour, I was in love with living art. I was hooked.
So I pursued this love, and this is where it has brought me.
In 2016, I opened
A Beautiful Day Event Flowers & Decor, after working as Lead Designer for a luxury event venue. (Yes, that same event venue that I happened upon, the morning after the designer was a no-show.)
Sometimes, to find the thing that you love to do, you simply need to be told to go find it...and you need the courage to try.
I love every minute of working with flowers and families. I love the love stories I get to bear witness to. I love to hand-off a bouquet to a Bride, as her bridesmaids swirl around her like happy little birds. I love to watch the Father of the Bride stand proud as he surveys the epic event, and waits for his daughter to grab his arm - leaning into his care for her monumental rite-of-passage down the aisle. I love trying to get the groomsmen to stop passing a football long enough to pin a boutonniere onto their lapel. I love watching Grandmothers try to lasso flower girls so they can secure their flower crowns to their little (wiggly) cherub heads.
I love lighting the candles around the centerpieces. I love climbing the ladders to decorate a floral arch. I love the women who design with me.
I found it.
I found "what I am going to do".
I am going to hunt and gather flowers, and shape them into monuments of living color to mark life's most epic adventures.
I am so honored to have found this work.
